    Awards and medals are presented annually during May unless the recipient is not available for the ceremony.

    The Jr. Vice Commandant is automatically the Chair of this committee by a vote of the membership. The Chair's responsibility is to retrieve nominations for recognition of our members by the Detachment Commandant. He shall collect nominations with brief write up as to why the member believes the member or others should be recognized and submit those nominations to the Commandant for subsequent recognition by 1 April of each year.

    Below is a description of awards that may be presented by the Detachment Commandant in accordance with our National Bylaws. You can go to the Detachment website and follow the below instructions or you can utilize this format to submit your nominations.

    The Detachment Marine of the Year Award has separate guidelines (i.e must be submitted in a sealed envelope labeled MOY Nomination to the current MOY, and requires a special form. The Bylaws Committee web page has the information, or click on Detachment Marine of the Year Guidelines and the Detachment Marine of the Year Nomination Form, to see the documents in PDF format, and then you can also print them.

    For all other awards described below, simply click on the name of the medal or certificate, and then enter a short writeup explaining why you think the person you are nominating shoud receive the award/certificate. When you are done, simply click again to send your nomination information to the Awards Committee Chairmarine via email.

    Distinguished Citizen Medal - Bronze (Ribbon: White center flanked by Maroon stripes) The Detachment Commandant is authorized to award this medal.

    Distinguished Service Medal (God, Country and Corps) - Bronze (Ribbon: Maroon center flanked by dark blue stripes) The Detachment Commandant is authorized to award this medal.

    Detachment Staff Medal (Elected) - (Ribbon: Blue, White, Red, White, Blue) to be worn by present and past elected Detachment Officers.

    Detachment Staff Medal (Appointed) - (Ribbon: White, Blue, White) To be worn by present or past Appointed Officers.

    Detachment Recruiter Medal (Bronze) - (Ribbon: Gold, Green, Gold) Awarded to Detachment Recruiter(s) of the Year. Each recipient shall also be presented a Certificate of Appreciation (God, Country and Corps). It should be noted that any member who has recruited five or more members should have their name submitted to National for National Award.

    MCL Community/VAVS Service Medal (National/Dept/Detachment) - (Ribbon: Green, Yellow, Green). In the opinion of the Detachment Commandant and the Awards Committee, the recipient has exemplified themselves in their community and/or including VAVS, but not necessarily both, helping all with whom they have come into contact.

    Marine Corps League Medal (Membership) - (Ribbon blue, Khaki, Olive, flanked by gold and pink stripes). To be worn by any Marine who has been a member of the MCL for five 'continuous' years and has not had membership revoked. A Silver Star will be worn for each additional five-year period.

    Meritorious Individual Commendation (Detachment) - (Ribbon: Gold center flanked by white). Citation Presented by the Detachment to a member of the Detachment for meritorious achievement. The citation is the authorization to wear the ribbon as indicated on the citation. A gold star will be worn for additional awards.

    Distinguished Service Award (Certificate only) - This award may be presented by the Detachment Commandant to members of the Detachment and/or non-league persons. This citation should be presented to any Marine who has been awarded the Distinguished Citizen Medal (Bronze), and the Distinguished Service Medal indicating authorization to wear the awarded medal.

    Certificate of Appreciation (Certificate Only) - The Detachment Commandant may present this award to League and non-League members for appreciation of loyalty and patriotism.

    Certificate of Appreciation (For displaying the United States Flag) - This award may be presented by the Detachment Commandant to anyone who displays the U.S. Flag 24/7.
